Narrow aisle forklifts
Narrow aisle forklifts are usually used within warehousing operations. These kinds of forklifts are vital equipments in the business because their small size and extreme maneuverability allow warehouses to utilize space to maximum storing capacity. They can easily negotiate aisles which are 1.8 meters wide, while typical lift trucks require at least 3.4 meters of aisle width.
The two kinds are "narrow aisle forklift" and the "very narrow aisle forklift". The former require 2.4 meters - 3 meters in aisle width, whereas the latter could function in a 1.8 meters wide space.
The design of the narrow aisle forklift features forks which are positioned at right angles to the truck body. The trucks do not need to face the shelves, but instead drive straight down the aisle picking up loads to the side. This particular design feature is the key to their suitability for tight spaces.
To make certain that the forklift is moving in a straight line down the aisle, several very narrow aisle forklifts include optical or wire systems. That way, the operator can focus more on the picking and the placement of loads.
These types of lifts are equipped with cushion tires made from solid rubber. The hard tires perform well on concrete floors and smooth, paved surfaces. Narrow aisle forklifts have electric motors suited for applications in indoor environments. Propane-powered versions are available as well.
