It is totally different to use a stand-up forklift as opposed to a sit-down unit. The way you transport and lift loads along with your movements are completely different. If you do not have proper training for using a stand-up model, you could potentially cause harm to yourself or to co-workers. When utilizing a stand-up model, you should follow the proper safety regulations. There are several basic operating standards which must be met when using a stand-up unit.
When beginning, stand up on the lift truck in order to get a feel for the steering knob and the controls. The steering is handled with the knob steering plate as opposed to a steering wheel. Remember that this knob moves very fast, therefore, you need to be accustomed to moving it gently so as to be certain not to over steer. The horn is located on the control handle, like with the control for the movement of the forks and for backwards, forwards. The floor pedal enables the machinery to move.
If you are ready to start, turn the key to start the machine. Be sure that your forks are not extended. When you are moving all-around the floor, the forks should be pointed a little upwards. Do not drive with extended forks. If you are traveling forwards, move the control handle forward and in order to make the lift move forward, step on the pedal. If you are backing up, be sure to beep your horn so as to alert those around you. Look behind you prior to stepping on the pedal in order to make sure the path is clear and safe. After that, while stepping on the pedal, pull the control handle towards you. Stay focused and alert and make sure that you are always operating in a safe manner.
When it comes to turning corners, turn your steering knob in the direction you need to go while keeping your hand on the control handle and your foot on the power pedal. When turning right, the steering knob will move in a clockwise direction while moving forward. If you are turning left, your steering knob would go in a counter-clockwise direction.
If you have just utilized sit down models, the stand-up versions may take some getting used to. If you take some time to know the machine and with some training, you will be able to handle loads efficiently and quickly in little time.
