Made to both lift and lower loaded pallets from storage spaces that are high is a narrow aisle forklift. This particular kind is suitable for work environments with narrow spaces between aisles, like warehouses or retail environments. The forklift has small, solid rubber tires which make maneuvering easy.

Usually, the operator of this particular type of forklift stands up in a small cockpit. The stand-up design enables the narrow aisle forklift to be as short and narrow as possible. A stand-up cockpit forklift normally has three tires: two in the front, and one in the rear. This design allows for easy and fast maneuvering. There are some models of these forklifts that are available with a sit-down cockpit. The lift attachment is capable of pivoting to the sides, allowing the lift to be operated without the operator having to move the entire equipment. The sit-down version generally has four wheels.

An electric engine is utilized to power many narrow aisle forklifts. Machines which are electrically powered do not produce exhaust fumes and are not noisy, making them the suitable option for closed areas such as retail spaces. Several lifts come with a gas engine or a diesel engine. Then again, the diesel model is not recommended to be used indoors since it could be quite noisy and produce exhaust.
